What to expect

This page is aimed at those coming for portrait shoots.

Adults and families

Photography is part science, part technology, part art and part personality. We control as much as possible in the studio and on location, but the subject of the photograph can do a great deal to make a shoot a success.

From our side we create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Many adults are shy or feel intimidated having their photographs taken. We never force a situation but try to keep up a conversation during a shoot. Sometimes we play music to suit the subject. We don't have onlookers during shoots.

We insist on giving you private time, in a private space, to do make-up or comb hair or even practice poses! You need to feel confident that you look your best - look the way you'd like to look.

It is best to bring changes of clothing. Dark or light colours are best for Black & White photography. Bring strong colours for colour photography. A family shoot with everyone dressed in denim can be spectacular. But only bring clothes you like and that suit your personality. Don't shy away from dressing formally; equally, don't be afraid of being too casual. We have a private change area and allow enough time for un-hurried changes.

We always ask you what you hope to achieve with the photographs, and show examples of our work.

Try to be early for a shoot. A rushed and annoyed person or family rarely make for good photographs. We have a good waiting area. We're also located between two excellent cafes, Cuneo and Ricciotti. Rather be early and relax.

Children and babies

Our studio is geared for commercial, adult and family shoots. But even more so it was set up with children and babies in mind. Kerry used to run a children's studio for many years and brought all her experience to this brand new venture.

Our lights are mounted on booms on the wall, not on tripods. There is very little for children to bump against and nothing to knock over. Even our music system is in a safe cabinet. We have a variety of toys and games to get children excited and looking their best. We have good heating and soft fabrics for babies. We even have emergency baby food and nappies.

If your child has a favourite toy, bring it along. between your techniques and ours we're bound to achieve great photographs.

In this classic portrait James (Aged 8) is wearing a suit much too big for him. It was a hand-me down from his 11-year old friend Nikolai, and James insisted on wearing it. He was right. The poise of this photograph reflects his pride and mature confidence.
